Position: HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN with Security Clearance
Duties
* You will install, modify, and replace generation and distribution equipment in substations, power-generating facilities, transformer vaults, and/or distribution centers.
* You will maintain, replace, test and reset circuit breakers in switch and substations, at shore installations including pier mounted unit substations and vaults.
* You will Install, connect, and maintain transformers used as switching gear for control power, and potential and current transformers for metering devices.
* You will troubleshoot distribution circuits and generating and control equipment to locate and correct the causes of outages and improper operation.
* You will check condition of transformers, switches, and cable and test insulating oil of transformers and oil switches for breakdown and contamination. Requirements Conditions of employment

* You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
* This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
* You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
* You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible.

The Screen-out Element for this position is:
1) Understanding of and hands-on background in high-voltage electrical power distribution systems operating above 600 volts, along with the ability to apply electrical principles, safety standards, and technical procedures with minimal supervision from the first day;
2) Installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing major components of high-voltage systems, including substations, transformers, switches, circuit breakers, fuses, lightning arresters, regulators, converters, and associated mechanical and electronic control systems;
3) Interpreting complex circuit diagrams showing generators, buses, feeders, substations, and interconnections in order to diagnose faults and determine corrective actions. The position requires skill in locating cable defects such as shorts, opens, grounds, capacitance imbalance, and electrolysis damage using voltmeters, ohmmeters, meggers, phase sticks, and cable-fault locating equipment;
4) Splicing and terminating high-voltage cables, forming and sealing various types of joints, and installing or pulling cable through ducts, trenches, conduits, tunnels, and overhead structures while setting proper wire tension based on conductor type, span, temperature, and load;
5) Understanding of the National Electric Safety Code and the ability to select appropriate wire and cable types, conduits, transformers, and protective devices is essential, as is the ability to integrate these components into functioning high-voltage systems;
6) Diagnosing and repairing power-controlling equipment such as switch gear, transformer banks, and circuit breakers, and must be able to troubleshoot and replace circuit boards in electronic reclosers and similar devices; and
