Position: Family Services Worker II - CPS (AHT)

Family Services Worker II – City of Norfolk, Department of Human Services (NDHS)

We are seeking a Family Services Worker II to provide assessments and to develop and implement service plans for vulnerable children and families. The incumbent will conduct home visits, maintain case records, and prepare written reports. Responsibilities also include responding to crisis situations and connecting families to community resources.

Salary

Departmental Hiring Salary Range: $56,900–$68,294.

Essential Functions
  • Provides assessment of family needs, developing and implementing service plans to address the needs of vulnerable children and families.
  • Performs related duties by conducting home visits, assessing strengths, needs, risk and safety.
  • Maintains case records, preparing written reports, attending and coordinating service and related meetings.
  • Responds to crisis situations for children and families to address safety, permanency, and well‑being.
  • Connects families to community resources necessary to address their needs. Assists families with accessing mainstream benefits (i.e. SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, and Public Housing).
  • Assists families with housing stability supports and services.
  • Participates in Family Partnership Meetings.
  • Authorizes payments as needed.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience

Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field or a Bachelor's degree in any field and minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience in a Human Services area (Section 22

VAC
40-670-20 of the Administrative Code of Virginia). Possession of a BSW or MSW degree and a Commonwealth of Virginia Social Worker license are desirable.

Two (2) years experience in social services.

Desired Qualifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organization and time management skills.
  • Family engagement experience.
  • Case management experience.
Additional Requirements
  • Valid Driver's License.
Work Hours

4:00 PM – 12:00 AM;
Monday–Friday and on holidays.

Signing Bonus

One-time $5,000 signing bonus.

Benefits

Special project/grant employees are generally eligible for the same benefits of regular full‑time employees; however, retirement, life insurance and participation in health plans vary depending on funding and authorization.

Temporary/seasonal and part‑time employees are generally only eligible for employer provided parking and access to membership in credit union.

If you are hired from October 5, 2010, or after, you will be required to contribute five percent (5 %) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre‑tax payroll deduction.

If you are hired from January 1, 2022, or after, you will be required to contribute five percent (5 %) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre‑tax payroll deduction.

The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self‑development and education. Permanent full‑time and permanent part‑time classified, unclassified permanent, full‑time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. The applicant’s school of enrollment must be an accredited institution.
