Position SummaryThis role is scheduled from 2:30pm to 11:00pm, Sunday to Thursday. The rider is responsible for safely driving a commercial truck within the transportation yard for unloading/loading trailers and delivering product to local customers. Duties include determining trailer requirements, moving trailers to appropriate docks, performing routine vehicle inspections, and maintaining DOT compliance.

- Communicate with supervisors, dispatchers, and warehouse personnel as needed.
- Maintain the yard in a neat and orderly manner; ensure the yard fueling station is clean and tractors/trailers are positioned correctly.
- Conduct yard checks of trailers and complete trailer inventory to maintain control of all trailers, including empty available, loaded, and outbound trailers ready for dispatch.
- Operate the commercial truck to move and reposition trailers to and from the loading docks.
- Secure trailer doors and ensure loads are sealed and locked appropriately.
- Deliver products to local customers, assist unloading, verify accuracy of deliveries, and obtain delivery confirmation and customer signature.
- Inform warehouse associates of invoice discrepancies, collect returned or damaged products, and return them to the distribution center.
- Report unsafe loading conditions and notify the dispatcher or supervisor of any damaged or defective equipment.
- Perform pre‑trip inspections to ensure all mechanical and safety components are functional and comply with DOT regulations.
- Maintain a safe work environment by following established safety procedures while driving and moving trailers.
- Perform post‑trip duties such as fueling, securing the tractor/trailer, completing DOT logs, and providing all necessary paperwork.
- Handle simple vehicle maintenance, including cleaning, tire inflation, and routine repairs, and coordinate with the dispatcher or supervisor for necessary maintenance.
- Handle additional responsibilities as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED (preferred).
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (required).
- Six months or at least 50,000 miles of all‑season commercial driving experience (required).
- Passe DOT physical examination and DOT pre‑employment drug test, subject to periodic random testing.
- Ability to work up to 60 hours per week, including nights and weekends.
- Good communication, organizational, prioritization, and attention‑to‑detail skills.
- Good customer service skills.
- Ability to read maps and route schedules and operate vehicles in various traffic and weather conditions.
- Knowledge of federal regulations and DOT guidelines.
- Flexible to work in shifts, including evenings and weekends.
The job requires the ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds frequently during loading and unloading, push and pull loaded pallets and carts up to 2,700 pounds, sit for up to eleven hours per day, climb in and out of the tractor and trailer often, and handle work in extreme weather conditions. The noise level ranges from low to moderate, occasionally higher.
