Overview
The Material Logistician plays a critical role in our Norfolk ship repair operations by managing the end-to-end flow of materials. This position ensures that all required parts and equipment are accurately received, meticulously documented, securely stored, and efficiently issued to the production floor and project teams. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between procurement and production, maintaining tight inventory controls to support our marine and industrial projects.
Key Responsibilities- Receive and Inspect:
Verify all incoming material shipments against purchase orders for accuracy and quality. - Logistics Coordination:
Coordinate with the Norfolk shop on materials arriving via van or truck, ensuring all incoming transfers are accurately recorded using the Material Transfer - Data Management:
Log, scan, file, and properly store all receiving paperwork immediately upon completion to maintain real-time inventory tracking.
- Secure Storage:
Organize, lift, and safely store incoming materials on shelves or racks within the company's CFM cage. - Auditing:
Conduct a comprehensive physical inventory audit of all materials in the CFM cage every six months to ensure zero variance. - Stock Optimization:
Review all incoming Material Requisition s submitted by Trade Leads to verify if items are already "In-Stock" before forwarding the request to the Purchasing.
- Workforce Assistance:
Assist tradespeople and craft workers with securing the specific materials needed to complete active jobs. - Issue Control:
Process and document all materials issued to production utilizing the Material Draw Form. - Post-Issue Administration:
Complete all post-issuance administrative tasks, including logging, scanning, filing, and updating storage. - Project
Collaboration:
Provide logistical support to Trade Leads and Project
Managers as operational needs dictate.
Qualifications & Technical Skills- Blueprint Reading:
Proven ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints to ensure correct material identification. - System Proficiency:
Familiarity utilizing Material Status Reports (MSR) categorized by specific craft/trade. - Administrative Accuracy:
Exceptional attention to detail with standard office procedures (scanning, digital filing, data entry, and physical log maintenance). - Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, move, and maneuver industrial materials for storage on warehouse racks and - Industry
Experience:
Prior experience in marine repair, shipyard logistics, or industrial warehousing is highly preferred.
