Job Summary
The Associate Dean advises the Dean and makes strategic recommendations on a full range of personnel management, budget, policy, and planning issues related to the management of the College. This role oversees budget and financial operations for the College in collaboration with the Dean. This Associate Dean collaborates with other members of the College staff on issues such as instructional capacity,
development, technology support, and facilities/space coordination as these areas relate to budget and planning.
While the position has a number of areas of assigned responsibilities, there are also broad areas in which the Associate Dean develops policy recommendations for the Dean and makes decisions within parameters set by the Dean.

The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest and most diverse college at Illinois State University, housing 19 departments, schools, and interdisciplinary programs. It is the academic heart of Illinois State University, serving as the home to the core curriculum that forms the basis for all degree programs. Approximately 5700 students pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees in degree programs spanning the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences/math.
The College also houses nearly 300 tenure track faculty who are recognized consistently for teaching and research excellence.
Salary Rate / Pay Rate
$,000 commensurate with experience
Required Qualifications
1. Doctorate Degree:
PhD in a field in Arts and Sciences required by the appointment start date.
2. Tenured associate or full professor in a discipline within the College of Arts and Sciences.
3. At least two years of administrative responsibilities (e.g., undergraduate program director, graduate program director, associate department chair/school director, department chair/school director).
4. Skilled in collaborating with people individually and in groups
5. Willing to learn about and work with budgets, personnel matters, and institutional planning processes.
6. Capable of managing policy development and implementation
7. Skilled in keeping adequate records and analyzing information
8. Skilled in data management and analysis
9. Effective oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience dealing with complex budgets, at least at the department/school and/or program level. Experience handling faculty annual evaluation, promotion, and tenure processes at the department or program level.
3. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a collaborative team in developing and implementing policy regarding personnel and/or budgeting.
4.
Experience with strategic planning.
5. Experience leading in a unionized environment.
Work Hours
Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-4:30 pm. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
