This position is in the Department of Social Sciences which includes History, Political Science, Sociology, and Criminal Justice. It is a full-time, 9-month appointment. The rank and tenure-status of the position is negotiable based on qualifications. The area of specialization is open but preference will be given to someone with a PhD in Sociology. The faculty member must be prepared to teach a broad a range of traditional Sociology courses in a face to face or online format.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area department chair and program coordinator; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes.
* Advising students; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in his/her regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities;
assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the department chair; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a faculty member as outlined in the faculty handbook.
* Must have some publication and a progressive research agenda.
* Teach at least four (4 undergraduate courses) per semester.
* Assist with the recruitment of new students to the degree program.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum
Position Requirements (including years of experience, certifications, licenses, etc.):
* Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in hand from a regionally accredited university, with a demonstrated ability to undertake research and be committed to excellence in teaching.
* The candidate should have not less than 3 years of teaching experience preferably at a four-year degree granting institution.
* A record of publication in professional journals or on-going research likely to result in publication in the near future.
* Experience advising students on academic and career choices
Essential Functions:
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Ability to teach graduate public administration courses
* The faculty member must have the ability to deliver a high level of interactive customer service, develop and maintain collaborative relationships throughout the organization, communicate effectively and possess proficient computer skills, including familiarity with the Microsoft Suite of Office Applications/ administration.
* Must be knowledgeable about the use of technology in delivering instructions or have the willingness to learn and master new technologies.
* Must have the ability to interact with public and private agencies to secure resources and/or employment opportunities for students.
