Secondary IMC Department Chair

Schedule B - Department Chair Position (Chair 4-7 FTE in Department)



Position Overview :
The Secondary IMC Department Chair oversees the IMC operations, curriculum integration, and the professional growth of the library team. This role blends expertise in librarianship with leadership, communication, and curriculum support to ensure the IMC is an innovative and integral part of the school's academic and cultural environment.

Qualifications

  • Tenured teacher (preferred)

  • Proficient or excellent cumulative rating on evaluations (at least 2 summative ratings)

  • Appropriate professional certification

  • Master's Degree preferred

  • Primary assignment in the department at the level representing building chair position

Responsibilities:

1. Librarian Support Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate communication throughout the district regarding curriculum/content area needs and goals.

  • Facilitate professional development opportunities for the library team to stay current with educational and technological trends.

  • Support the implementation of best practices in library services, including collection development, research support, and technology integration.

2. Curriculum Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement research and media literacy programs aligned with state and district standards.

  • Lead efforts to incorporate emerging technologies and digital tools into instruction and research.

3. Communication Responsibilities:
  • Meet periodically with the Director of Secondary Education.

  • Attend scheduled district departmental chair meetings with administration.

  • Serve as a communication liaison for department information at the building and district level.

  • Advocate for the IMC’s role in supporting teaching and learning at the school and district levels.

4. Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Serve as communication liaison between the district administration and the IMC’s.

  • Provide input to assist with coordination and leadership of annual institutes/workshops/staff development presentations.

  • Provide leadership in review of instructional materials.

  • Assist with interviews for potential IMC specialists.
