- The Special Education Teacher is the lead classroom teacher, responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing the assigned classroom program (traditional junior high, behavioral disability focus). The teacher provides classroom leadership and works in cooperation with assigned classroom staff.
- Pay: $50,000 – $70,000 per year, salary/exempt, paid over school breaks, higher pay for highly qualified candidates.
- Sign‑on bonus: $5,000 for external candidates.
- Work hours:
Full‑time, generally 8:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M., Monday through Friday, following the school calendar. Responsible for at least 3 weeks of summer school, ESY (extended school year). - Location:
Two locations – 612 Oglesby Ave., Normal, IL and 108
E. Willow St., Normal, IL.
- Educational instruction:
Plans, coordinates, evaluates, and implements a comprehensive curriculum that meets the individualized behavioral, academic, and social needs of each student, directly related to the IEP. - Progress reporting:
Collects, prepares, and presents behavioral and academic data on each child; maintains data and applies statistical analysis to measure student progress. - Lesson plans:
Develops and implements lesson plans that reflect best practice in specialized educational instruction.
- Bachelor’s degree in special education or secondary education, specializing in teaching children with behavior, emotional, learning, autism spectrum, speech and language, or developmental disabilities.
- Special Education Teacher License (LBS‑1 licensure with the State of Illinois) in one or more of the above-mentioned disabilities.
