Job Summary

The Larry and Barbara Efaw Center for Educator Excellence supports education students and alums in their development as excellent educators across the educator lifespan. The Efaw Center provides individualized attention, focused learning communities, and event programming for all education students. The Efaw Center acknowledges that barriers to academic success can be addressed by proactively offering a holistic approach to support services.

Further, the Efaw Center embraces ISU values related to equity, diversity, access and belonging (EDAB) and is involved with promoting these campus and college initiatives in the center and through our collaborations. The Graduate student worker will support the Director with Efaw Center programming, workshops, services, and direct student support. The Graduate Student assists the Efaw Center Director with managing daily operations, supervising undergraduate staff, mentoring teacher education students, communicating with campus and community partners, and assisting with leading and designing services and existing programming including but not limited to ILTS content test preparation, Educator Alumni Peer Mentoring Program, and Peer Mentoring.

The student in this position will be expected to complete the following tasks:

* Use Microsoft products (Teams, Outlook email, calendar, Excel), scheduling program, and other technologies required to complete work tasks.

* Keep correct notes from tutoring sessions in a secure location.

* Arrive to work on time and work during the entire shift.

* Gather student feedback, discuss with supervisor, respond in a manner that demonstrates a positive growth mindset.

* Attend scheduled meetings.

The graduate student in this position must be highly organized, detail oriented and flexible and exhibit an equity oriented and inclusive disposition, be friendly and open to addressing students by public pronouns and preferred names, be punctual, desire to be helpful, and must be able to communicate effectively in spoken and written English and generally exhibit competence and excellence in the Pillars of Professional Excellence.

The Graduate Student worker in this position understands and supports the Efaw Center mission, so they must exhibit qualities of a person who works well as a member of a team, values transparency, open communication, pro-active problem solving, humility, punctuality, respect for self and others as demonstrated through how they present themselves and address their supervisors, co-workers, and students they serve.

Pay Rate

$17/hour

Required Qualifications

* Graduate Student at Illinois State University

* Proficiency with using and learning digital tools like Canvas, Microsoft Office, and others used for programming, secure data storage, presentations, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

* Knowledgeable about K-12 education research and practices

* Supervisory and teaching/mentoring experience

* Experience with programs like Canvas, MS Office, and Google Classroom.

Work Hours

10-20 hours per week.

9am-7pm Monday-Thursday and 9am-5pm Friday in person in the Efaw Center (DEG 18).

Friday morning required staff meetings 9am-10:30am

1-2 evenings a week availability required Monday-Thursday
