Job Summary

Graduate teaching assistants are generally assigned to individual faculty members to assist with or provide course instruction. The nature of the assistance varies by discipline and can involve a variety of activities, such as:

  • Serve as a primary or secondary teaching instructor in a class or laboratory.
  • Assist a faculty member with teaching‑related tasks.
  • Grade student assignments that require knowledge of subjects taught in a class or laboratory.
  • Meet with and/or tutor students, hold office hours, prepare instructional materials, and assist during class and/or laboratory.

Applicants are required to provide a statement addressing the following:

  • Prior experience supporting undergraduate mathematics students in mathematics through instruction, tutoring, mentoring, or related roles;
  • Interest in contributing to general education;
  • Relevant preparation, including coursework and skills in mathematics, statistics, computing, and/or mathematics education, as well as any specialized training, research experience, or coursework in actuarial science, statistics, biomathematics, pure and applied mathematics, mathematics education, or related fields.

Illinois State University student employees are restricted to no more than 28 hours per week of on-campus employment for all positions held.
