Educational Interpreter

Overview

Illinois State University is hiring an Educational Interpreter to provide interpreter services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, supporting communication in classrooms, school events, and extra-curricular activities. The role involves collaboration with special educators and participation in team meetings to support student learning. This position may require placement adjustments based on student needs and is subject to a summer academic break layoff.

• Provide interpreter services to students aged 3-21 who are deaf or hard of hearing across diverse educational settings.
• Facilitate communication during classroom instruction, school events, and extra-curricular activities.
• Collaborate with educational teams and participate in team meetings to support special education efforts.

• Must hold a valid Statement of approval from the Illinois State Board of Education for sign language interpreting.
• Requires high school diploma or GED and ability to effectively communicate daily with or without accommodation.
• Must be able to move between classrooms quickly and demonstrate physical activities if working with elementary students.

• Salary range is $22.18 to $28.83 per hour.
• Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 3:30pm, with potential summer layoff from mid-May to mid-August.
