Physical Therapist Assistant Faculty Position

Join a mission-driven community college committed to student success, hands-on learning, and strengthening the future of healthcare! We invite passionate and collaborative Physical Therapists to apply for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in our Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program. This is a 9-month position anticipated to begin Spring 2027. Heartland's PTA program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).

As a faculty member, you will play a key role in preparing the next generation of Physical Therapist Assistants through engaging instruction, supportive mentorship, and participation in program development. There is an optional additional assignment as the Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education (ACCE).

Faculty in the PTA Program have a dynamic role with opportunities to teach, innovate, and lead. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Teaching & Instruction:
    Deliver engaging learning experiences in classroom and lab settings, with the possibility of teaching in other disciplines
  • Curriculum Development:
    Participate in curriculum design, assessment, and refinement to ensure alignment with best practices and evolving professional standards
  • Program & Department Engagement:
    Contribute to department projects, program review, accreditation processes, and strategic planning initiatives
  • College Service:
    Serve on department and College-wide committees that advance student success and institutional goals
Requirements
  • Earned degree to practice Physical Therapy
  • Current Illinois Physical Therapist license
  • Minimum of 3 years of documented full-time post-licensure clinical experience in physical therapy
  • Ability to work effectively and inclusively with diverse students, colleagues, and community partners
Desired Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a clinical instructor
  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching and/or curriculum development experience in a PT or PTA program
  • Ability to teach additional courses within other Health Sciences disciplines

Anticipated starting salary range for this 9-month position is $68,327 - $85,331, plus any applicable pay for overload and/or summer assignments.

This position is based in Normal, IL and requires on-campus/in-person presence.

Benefits

Employee Leave:

Sick Leave: 10 days per year, pro-rated from employment date. If hired in August, 10 days (80 hours) of sick leave awarded on start date;
If hired in January, 5 days (40 hours) of sick leave awarded on start date;
Monthly accrual in subsequent years starting every August. Awarded 16 hours of sick leave for teaching 6 or more ECH in Summer term;
Awarded 8 hours of sick leave for teaching 3-5 ECH in Summer term

Personal Leave: 5 days (40 hours) per year, pro-rated from employment date. Unused personal leave converts to sick leave days at the end of employment year

Volunteer Leave: 1 day (8 hours) per year with no annual carry-over. 8 hours awarded on start date, then annually awarded at the start of the calendar year on January 1

Bereavement Leave:
Up to 5 days (40 hours) per occurrence

Parental Leave: 4 weeks (160 hours) for qualifying events, once per 12-month rolling period

Holidays:
The College is closed on the following holidays:
Labor Day, Election Day (Presidential Election years only), Wednesday through Friday of Thanksgiving week, Christmas Eve Day through New Year's Day inclusively, Dr. Martin Luther King's Birthday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, and Independence Day
