Overview
The Rivian ME Conveyor Engineering Team aims to be at the forefront of innovation and technology in conveyor systems. Our mission is to support Rivian's effort to deliver world-class electric vehicles by delivering automated manufacturing facilities with minimal development and commissioning time, that operate continuously with no unplanned downtime. We are looking for visionary, boundary-breaking members who will redefine the standards for manufacturing engineering conveyor systems and unlock the potential of innovative technologies on production lines.
As a Sr. leader of the ME Conveyor Engineering team, you will lead a team of highly skilled conveyor engineers to create state-of-the-art conveyor systems deployed to General Assembly production lines, with emphasis on innovation, operator experience, and tackling ambitious conveyor challenges. You will implement company standards and frameworks for conveyor applications used in production processes, provide guidance to suppliers from design through start of production, coordinate and document acceptance tests, and ensure data propagation between components for production tracking, manufacturing systems, and diagnostics.
Location and reporting:
Normal, IL, East Atlanta, GA or Plymouth, MI facility; reports to a Sr. Director, Manufacturing Engineering.
- Manage a team of conveyor and AGV engineers and specialists supporting all centers (Paint, Body, GA, DU, Battery, Pack, Plastic, etc.).
- Develop and implement strategic plans to optimize conveyor, AGV and equipment operations; drive process improvements and achieve objectives.
- Collaborate with ME and Plant cross-functional teams and Facilities Engineering to ensure seamless project execution.
- Conveyor and AGV Functional Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Factory Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
- Own and maintain a common set of ME Conveyor and AGV equipment and process specifications.
- Develop project proposals, plans and scope-of-work to determine resource requirements, timelines, and budgets.
- Interface with internal and external stakeholders through a co-design approach to address inquiries, resolve issues and ensure plant satisfaction.
- Drive adoption of best practices through process optimization, new technologies, and advanced manufacturing techniques.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards and company policies.
- Support digital design tools to achieve appropriate design detail, minimize rework, and enable full equipment simulation.
- Apply cost engineering principles to analyze and optimize project and operational costs.
- Maintain knowledge of the latest conveyor and AGV technologies and digitization trends; apply insights to improve processes.
- If based in Plymouth, MI, travel 50-75% will be required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Business with equivalent industrial experience.
- Minimum of 10 years of combined experience in automation engineering and tooling/equipment implementation and optimization.
- Strong technical knowledge in conveyance, AGVs and automation.
- Proven ability to co-design with automation equipment suppliers.
- Demonstrated ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences.
- Strong financial acumen with a track record of managing budgets, forecasting, resource planning, and delivering on financial targets.

Skills:
- MBA
- Master Electrician
- Experience in Bodyshop, GA, Paint, battery conveyor equipment
- Certification in project management (PMP), Lean Six Sigma, or relevant certifications in tooling or advanced manufacturing technologies
- Experience with operational excellence and continuous improvement
- Familiarity with current and emerging manufacturing digitization trends
The salary range for this role is $161,000-$201,200 for Georgia, Illinois and Michigan-based applicants. The range reflects good-faith expectations and is influenced by competencies, education, qualifications, experience, and location. The successful candidate may be eligible for annual performance bonus and equity awards.
