Healthcare Tech- Surgical Nursing Unit

Overview

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Health Care Technician (HCT) functions as a support to the licensed nursing staff and performs activities related to the personal care and hygiene needs of an assigned patient group. Facilitates communication with other departments, visitors, patients, medical staff and employees. Serves as a public relations liaison for the unit. Works under the direct supervision of the nursing manager.

• Certifications:
  
  Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days (American Heart Association)
• Education:
  
  High School Diploma or GED (Required)
• Work Experience:
  
  Prior experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) within past 24 months. Successful completion of Carle's HCT In Training Program, relevant medical military training, and completion of CNA coursework within past 24 months. At least one semester of nursing clinical experience.

• Assists with maintenance of unit supplies to ensure smooth operation and ordering supplies as needed.
• Collects data on assigned patients as directed by RN and ensures accurate documentation.
• Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills: measurement of vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, and measurement of intake and output.
• Performs or assists patients with activities of daily living and prepares patients for transportation.
• Completes HCT Safety Checklist at the beginning of each shift.
• Receives delegated responsibilities from RN each shift and maintains close communication regarding task completion.
• Completes and documents basic patient care independently: bath, vital signs, accuchecks, meal trays.
• Maintains patient safety, ensuring compliance with fall precautions, pressure ulcer prevention, isolation precautions, and ambulation safety.
• Assists the team in facilitating high volume of admissions and discharges in relation to Observation patient population.
• Responds promptly to patient call lights to triage and meet patient needs.
• Maintains a positive, healthy work environment and supports healing patient environment.

The compensation range for this position is $17.89 per hour - $28.98 per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered will be dependent on a variety of factors including candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
