Overview

Perform routine radiographic procedures on designated portions of the body for use by physicians in diagnosing and treating patient illness and injury, ensuring patient safety and quality care. The radiology technologist I also supports an atmosphere of respect and professionalism, works with students from the School of Radiology, and performs advanced imaging in surgery and fluoroscopy.

Qualifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days (American Heart Association)
  • Registered in Radiography (R) within 3 months (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists)
  • Licensed Radiologic Technologist in Radiography – Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)
  • Certificate of Completion in Radiologic Technology
  • Associate’s Degree in a related field
Responsibilities
  • Position patients and adjust equipment, secure and immobilize support devices as needed to perform procedures.
  • Determine appropriate radiographic technique based on anatomy and patient condition to obtain quality films for the radiologist.
  • Secure patient history regarding reason for prescribed tests, perform medication reconciliation, and record information on the appropriate form for the radiologist’s review.
  • Assist radiologists with routine fluoroscopic and/or invasive procedures.
  • Operate portable radiographic equipment and C-arm effectively in patient rooms, intensive care, and surgery.
  • Initiate request for emergency medical support as indicated by patient condition (e.g., code blue, rapid response).
  • Document all allergic reactions according to departmental and hospital policy.
  • Transport patients into and out of the department as necessary.
  • Check film quality to assure optimal quality is attained and ensure correct film labeling is provided.
  • Perform quality control activities, respond to inquiries, coordinate patient flow, and communicate with staff radiologists and other hospital personnel to ensure exams are completed in a timely fashion.
  • Prepare radiographic/fluoroscopic rooms for procedures, maintain equipment, and supplies as required.
  • Report deficient inventory of supplies and linen to Lead Technologist.
  • Provide direction and instruction to students in general procedures.
  • Maintain positive guest relations and telephone etiquette following prescribed departmental policies and procedures.
  • Perform all other assigned job duties.
  • Take thorough and accurate patient medical histories.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and ensure safety of patients and staff.
  • Position imaging equipment and adjust controls to set exposure time and distance according to specifications of the examination.
Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $30.39 per hour - $52.27 per hour. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will depend on a variety of factors including experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked, and compensation model.
