Role Summary

A Torque Technician is responsible for keeping the electronic and manual torque tools at Rivian functioning at peak efficiency. This role includes being the immediate response team for any torque tool issues in the production areas to minimize the impact these issues have on production volume and throughput rates.

Your responsibilities will also include maintaining and evolving dashboards to track and report on KPIs showing the activities on and performance of the Torque Tools, line‑call response time, resolution time, and overall tool or line‑down time, among others. You will be responsible for keeping the relevant dashboards and Kan Ban boards up to date and supporting Rivian Production System (RPS) initiatives and activities in your area.

This role reports to the Group Leader, Metrology and must be shift flexible.

Responsibilities
  • Respond to and resolve tooling issues affecting production in a timely and effective manner.
  • Manage Calibration Activities for production and repair tools.
  • Maintain a sufficient inventory of tools, parts, controllers, and modules to support the replacement of tools which are in need of repair or calibration (including keeping the inventory management system up to date).
  • Diagnose faults on tools in‑line and off‑line and define corrective actions.
  • Complete minor repair on torque tools.
  • Manage shipping of tools to manufacturer for repairs that cannot be completed in-house.
  • Set up new tools, controllers, and validate changes supporting cross‑functional teams.
  • Manage tooling programs, including regular audits and updates of run‑down programs, including multi‑spindle programs.
  • Interface with the Residual Torque Team to address consistently low torques.
Qualifications

  • Excellent hands‑on problem‑solving ability.
  • Experience working with and on automated, semi‑automated and manual torque tools of all sorts, especially those from the manufacturers Atlas Copco and Estic (pulse tools).
  • Experience with MES or a similar operational production control and recording system.
  • Expertise with relevant software (e.g. Tools Talk, Tool Net, MES, QAS, etc.).
  • Ability to think on your feet and work under time‑pressure.
  • Robust understanding of torque application methods and the effect that these have on the final joint.
  • Attention to detail and a desire for high quality, precision work.
  • Ability to work effectively across functional and operational boundaries.
  • Good electronic communication software skills (MS Office, Minitab, email, etc.).
  • Good interpersonal skills with a focus on collaboration in cross‑functional teams.
  • Desire to work in a strong cross‑functional and collaborative environment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; sit; use hands to grasp, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
