Position: RN - Recovery Room (PACU)

Overview

The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provides care via the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources within the philosophy of the institution.

Qualifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days from American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) from Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (or Nursing Diploma)
  • Work experience:

    RN > 1 year
Responsibilities
  • Perform all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service.
  • Implement procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided for integration of information by the healthcare team.
  • Complete initial assessment upon patient admission and develop an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards and based on patient and family needs.
  • Implement plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
  • Modify plan of care based upon continuous evaluation.
  • Take responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
  • Communicate with others directly and in private as necessary to resolve issues.
  • Offer constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and confer with colleagues to expand knowledge.
  • Identify own learning needs and take initiative to begin appropriate solutions.
  • Fulfill all requirements of departmental competencies.
  • Receive patient Bedside Shift Report from an RN at the beginning of each shift, ensuring inclusion of patient input, visual validation of a safe patient room environment at shift change, and update of the patient communication board.
  • Delegate patient care tasks/responsibilities to assigned HCTrs and validate completion of delegated tasks throughout the shift.
  • Complete and document basic RN patient care activities such as assessments, interpretation of vital signs, ensure physician order completion, admission/discharge of patients, hourly rounding completion on each assigned patient, care plan documentation, and patient education.
  • Meet Carle Med/Surg RN documentation standards for each assigned patient.
  • Provide patient medications utilizing the patient 5 Rights:
    Right Patient, Right Medication, Right Route, Right Dose, and Right Time.
  • Maintain patient safety as the highest priority, ensuring compliance with safety measures such as fall precautions, pressure ulcer prevention, isolation precautions, and patient ambulation safety.
  • Maintain a positive attitude at all times on unit that promotes a healthy work environment and a healing patient environment.
  • Keep a diligent focus on prompt answering of patient call lights to ensure effective triage and completion of patient requests/medical needs.
  • Use critical thinking to evaluate overall patient condition and apply nursing judgement to identify and act on changes in patient status.
  • Effectively communicate within the healthcare team to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, effective patient care coordination, and patient safety.
  • Effectively manage time to enable the quick admission/discharge process for Observation status patients and facilitate completion of patient testing to move patients quickly toward discharge disposition.
Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $35.87 per hour – $58.37 per hour. The actual compensation offered will depend on factors such as experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
