Position Highlights:
- Number of beds on unit: 18
- Patient population (age, diagnosis, specifics about unit): 18+ years. Cardiac arrhythmia, chest pain, CHF, pacemakers, ablations, heart attacks (MI), and cardiac interventions.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4–5
- Department culture and resources: CVCU is a fast‑paced, high patient‑turnover unit admitting and discharging multiple patients daily. The culture emphasizes teamwork, ensuring patient needs are met with interdisciplinary partners. Resources include charge nurse, heart‑failure nurse, cardiac rehab, case manager/social work, respiratory services, and pharmacy.
- Frequent nursing skills/equipment used:
Assessment, IV, managing cardiac drips, post‑procedure care, discharge teaching, completing admissions. Equipment: IV pumps, SCD machines, bedside monitors, cardiac monitoring, oxygen, ambulation equipment, lift equipment.
Performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service. Implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintains up‑to‑date and accurate documentation of nursing care to assure the integration of information for the healthcare team. Completes initial assessment upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards based on patient and family needs.
Implements plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifies the plan of care based on continuous evaluation. Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. Communicates with others directly and privately when necessary to resolve issues. Offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and confers with colleagues to expand knowledge base.
Identifies own learning needs and initiates appropriate solutions. Fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. Maintains a clean and tidy work environment, upholds hospital and unit competencies, performs hourly rounding on patients, and proactively seeks opportunities to assist internal and external customers.
Certifications:
Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year – American Heart Association (AHA). Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA).
Education:
H.S. Diploma/GED or Associate's Degree.
Work Experience:
Minimum 1 year as an RN in an inpatient setting.
The compensation range for this position is $36.80 per hour to $59.89 per hour. This represents a good‑faith minimum and maximum range at the time of posting. Actual compensation offered to a candidate will depend on a variety of factors, including experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked, and compensation model.
