RN - Medical Oncology Specialty Unit; Weekend

Overview

The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources within the philosophy of the institution.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA)
• Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
• College Diploma:
  Nursing

• Perform all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service.
• Implement procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.
• Maintain up‑to‑date and accurate documentation of nursing care to assure integration of information for use by the healthcare team.
• Complete initial assessment upon patient admission and develop appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards based on patient and family needs.
• Implement plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures; modify plan based on continuous evaluation.
• Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
• Communicate with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues; offer constructive feedback to assist in professional development of peers and confer with colleagues to expand knowledge base.
• Identify own learning needs and take initiative to begin appropriate solutions.
• Fulfill all requirements of departmental competencies.
• Appropriately perform patient care duties such as head‑to‑toe assessments, start IVs, insert NG tubes, dressing changes, administer medications, insert Foley catheters, access mediports and maintain the port throughout the shift.
• Maintain documentation standards as evidenced by passed quarterly chart audits.
• Provide emotional support to patients and their families.
• Administer chemotherapy/biotherapy to patients not only on the oncology unit but also throughout the hospital.

The compensation range for this position is $36.80 per hour to $59.89 per hour. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will depend on a variety of factors including experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
