Job SummaryA Building Mechanic is responsible for a comprehensive list of duties related to building maintenance, including the assistance in complex renovation processes. Responsibilities may evolve with new technology, methods, and procedures.
Responsibilities- Supervisory Expectations: daily contact via in person, telephone, or radio; courteous and professional communication; observe departmental reporting and confidentiality; adhere to workplace safety.
- Complexity: work with established procedures, work order system, ordering parts and materials, maintain references such as equipment manuals; comply with University Housing Services policies and procedures.
- Productivity/Volume/Quality: receive numerous work orders daily; meet schedules, complete assignments in a timely, service‑oriented manner; ensure accuracy, thoroughness, and effectiveness; use time and resources efficiently.
- Training: attend developmental and technical training on an ongoing and annual basis; mandatory training may be required.
- Manual dexterity and motor skills to perform mechanical repairs on various machinery, appliances, hardware, and structures.
- Ability to lift up to 80 pounds, push/pull up to 60 pounds, and work on stairs or ramps.
- Work may involve heavy physical exertion and activity.

$25.00 per hour. Effective 7/1/2026, starting rate of pay will be $25.75 per hour; after 12 months, the rate will be adjusted to $32.19 per hour.
Required QualificationsMonday through Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm. After 6 months of training, hours may change due to yearly job bid.
