Job SummaryStudent Counseling Services (SCS) invites applications for multiple Peer Mental Health Ambassador positions. This student employment role provides non-clinical, peer-based support to Illinois State University students through outreach, peer support conversations, and mental health education initiatives.
Peer Support Ambassadors play an important role in promoting student well-being, increasing awareness of campus resources, and supporting early help-seeking behaviors. This position is part of a prevention-focused initiative within SCS and contributes to fostering a campus culture of care, connection, and belonging.
Position responsibilities include providing brief peer support conversations utilizing active listening and empathy; assisting students in identifying needs and connecting to appropriate campus resources; and maintaining appropriate role boundaries consistent with non-clinical peer support.
Additional responsibilities include participating in outreach efforts such as tabling events, campus wellness initiatives, and mental health awareness programming; sharing accurate information about SCS and campus resources; and assisting in the development and facilitation of peer-led workshops.
Peer Support Ambassadors also support program operations through participation in supervision, required trainings, and completion of non-identifying documentation. This role is expected to follow established consultation and referral protocols and work collaboratively with SCS and campus partners.

Pay Rate$15.00/hour
Required Qualifications- Enrolled student at Illinois State University in good academic standing (minimum 2.5 GPA).
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate boundaries.
- Ability to work collaboratively and engage with a diverse student population.
- Availability for required training and weekly supervision: in-person Fridays 9 AM – 10:30 AM.
- Must be able to commit to the position for both Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters.
- Experience in peer leadership, mentoring, or student involvement.
- Interest in mental health, wellness, or helping professions.
- Comfort with outreach, facilitation, or public engagement.
6 hours per week. Availability between 8 AM - 4 PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and 8 AM - 7 PM Wednesday (hours will vary). Some evening hours may be required.
Functional Expectations- Effectively communicate on a daily basis.
