Cost Accountant

The Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing manufacturing costs, inventory, fixed assets, and operational expenses to ensure accurate financial reporting and support informed business decisions. The role supports month‑end close, budgeting, forecasting, inventory management, and continuous improvement initiatives throughout the organization.

• Analyze job costs, inventory balances, and expense accounts for accuracy and completeness to validate overall plant profitability.
• Investigate cost variances and financial discrepancies, perform root cause analysis, and provide recommendations for corrective actions and process improvements.
• Prepare and distribute monthly variance analyses related to material usage, labor, overhead, inventory, and production costs.
• Analyze product, customer, and project profitability and provide recommendations to improve margins and operational efficiency.
• Support management with financial modeling, ad hoc analyses, and special projects.

• Monitor inventory transactions and valuation to ensure compliance with company accounting policies and GAAP.
• Analyze inventory reserves, excess and obsolete inventory, and inventory turnover metrics.
• Review Bills of Material (BOMs), routings, and manufacturing data to ensure costing accuracy.
• Evaluate manufacturing processes and cost drivers to support operational decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
• Prepare journal entries, month‑end accruals, and other accounting transactions as necessary to support accurate financial reporting.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts to supporting documentation and investigate reconciling items in a timely manner.
• Assist with month‑end and year‑end closing activities, ensuring financial results are reported accurately and within established deadlines.
• Support forecasting and budgeting processes for plant operations, including location‑specific and intercompany accounts.

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• 3+ years of accounting, cost accounting, manufacturing accounting, or financial analysis experience preferred.
• Manufacturing industry experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with Epicor Kinetic or similar manufacturing ERP systems preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required.
