Athletics Graduate Assistants (Fall 2026)

The purpose of the Athletics Graduate Assistant program is to support promising individuals who are committed to a career in intercollegiate athletics and to continuing their education at the graduate level. The graduate assistant appointments include: a full waiver of graduate tuition (student is responsible for paying associated fees), a bi-weekly stipend, health insurance coverage and other benefits provided to athletics department employees (benefits vary but may include complimentary admission to athletic events).
Graduate Assistants are required to work an average of 20 hours per week during the academic year. Hours required may vary by assigned area. Duties will vary with area of assignment. This listing is a rolling listing that will stay open through Summer 2026. Hiring managers will pull applicants from the pool as positions become available. AcademicsAn Assistant Academic Advisor works with student-athletes in individualized sessions on skills that are important in developing the prepared student. The sessions also help students learn useful study techniques and improve problem solving strategies. Assistant Advisors also teach students how to utilize their unique learning style to maximize the time spent studying for their classes. Graduate Assistants are assigned to an academic advisor, reporting grades and status updates to coaches and sport administrators.
Assistant Academic Advisors are provided professional development workshops to further advance their workplace skills and knowledge of athletic advising. The assistant advising program prepares graduate assistants for a career in academic advising and academic support services.
The OU Athletics Communication Graduate Assistant manages publicity efforts for assigned sports by overseeing websites, social media, and written content while coordinating media relations and interviews. Responsibilities include running and maintaining statistical records, providing live updates, and assisting with game management tasks such as credential distribution and post-game press conferences. The role also involves creating publications like media guides and game programs while collaborating with marketing, event management, and Sooner Vision.
Additionally, the graduate assistant supports recruiting projects and provides assistance across various sports within the department.
The Event Management/Game Operations GA will assist with the planning, execution and evaluation of all NCAA events, University events, special events and championships hosted by the University of Oklahoma. This position will also assist with oversight of student and temporary worker staff hiring, scheduling, and oversight. GA also assists with facility operations, game management, risk management, and set up/tear down of all events.
EquipmentGraduate Assistants with equipment will either work with a specific sport or in the equipment room assisting equipment managers with daily operations, practice duties, and assisting with competition set up and breakdown.
Headington HallThe Headington Hall Graduate Assistant Residence Director supports the development and management of a positive living environment for student residents. Responsibilities include overseeing daily operations, supervising resident advisors and desk clerks, and advising the Student Leadership Association. The role also involves coordinating community development efforts, assisting with occupancy and conduct matters, and leading recruitment and tours. As a role model and mentor, the Residence Director plays a key part in fostering students' intellectual, emotional, and social growth.
Brandingand Licensing
The OU Licensing and Branding Graduate Assistant will assist the Director of Branding and Licensing with duties including, but not limited to, promoting and monitoring the use of OU's brand and trademarks, overseeing the university's crafter program, managing the OU Licensing email, and assisting in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the department's strategic licensing plan. The Branding and Licensing GA will also analyze royalty reports and other data, assist various functions related to the coordination of special local, community, and campus events.
