Position SummaryThe Plan-to-Produce Analyst helps improve how Marathon Petroleum connects planning, inventory, logistics, commercial activity, data, and technology across the value chain. As part of the Value Chain Optimization (VCO) organization, this role works across business functions and operating organizations to understand business problems, analyze processes and performance information, define requirements, and translate improvement opportunities into practical business and technology solutions. In this role, the analyst develops business requirements, analyzes processes and workflows, supports performance measurement and reporting, coordinates business testing, and helps prepare new or improved capabilities for successful implementation and sustained use.
The work may include process and workflow improvements, reporting enhancements, automation opportunities, artificial intelligence use cases, and other digital solutions that improve visibility, strengthen decision-making, reduce manual effort, or improve execution. The position offers broad exposure to enterprise planning and operations, process excellence, analytics, performance management, and technology-enabled transformation. It is well suited for someone who enjoys bringing structure to complex problems, collaborating with stakeholders from different disciplines, and turning business needs into practical improvements.
Direct Plan-to-Produce experience is not required. Successful candidates bring analytical curiosity, clear communication, disciplined follow-through, and the ability to build alignment across organizational boundaries without direct authority.
- Analyzes business processes, workflows, performance information, and recurring issues to clarify business needs, support problem definition, and inform improvement initiatives across the Plan-to-Produce process.
- Elicits, analyzes, documents, validates, and maintains business and functional requirements for support process improvements, reporting capabilities, workflows, automation, and technology-enabled solutions.
- Translates stakeholder needs into clear process designs, business rules, user stories, reporting requirements, acceptance criteria, and other implementation-ready deliverables.
- Supports performance measurement capabilities through KPI definitions, reporting requirements, scorecards, management review materials, data validation, and business interpretation of results.
- Coordinates business testing, issue resolution, implementation readiness, training, adoption, and post-implementation support to help new or improved capabilities deliver sustained business value.
- Maintains clear process, requirements, decision, and support documentation while partnering with process owners and Standards & Knowledge Management resources to align with approved documentation and governance practices.
- Builds effective working relationships across business functions, operating organizations, and technology teams to align stakeholders, resolve issues, manage dependencies, and move improvements from concept through implementation.
- Supports evaluation and implementation of analytics, automation, artificial intelligence, workflow tools, and other digital capabilities that improve visibility, reduce manual effort, strengthen decisions, or improve process performance.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Business Analyst (Plan-to-Produce) Two (2) or more years of experience in business analysis, process analysis, business operations, process improvement, performance management, systems administration, project support, analytics, supply chain, accounting, finance, engineering, or related business disciplines.
- Senior Business Analyst (Plan-to-Produce) Four (4) or more years of experience in business analysis, process analysis, business operations, process improvement, performance management, systems administration, project support, analytics, supply chain, accounting, finance, engineering, or related business disciplines.
- Analyzing business processes, workflows, or performance data.
- Gathering and documenting business or functional requirements.
- Developing KPIs, dashboards, reports, or business insights.
- Supporting business testing, implementation, change adoption, or operational readiness.
- Working with automation, workflow technologies, analytics, artificial intelligence, or other digital capabilities.
- Coordinating work across business and technology stakeholders.
- Working in refining, manufacturing, planning, supply chain, logistics, commercial operations, finance, or another complex operating environment.
