Overview
Camp Clap Hans and J.D. McCarty Center are looking for a Camp Counselor to join our team for the summer. This is a camp for children with disabilities and is an outreach program of the J.D. McCarty Center. You ll work with campers as they participate in many exciting activities. This will be a great experience to gain working knowledge in the field of Intellectual Developmental Disabilities.

Camper check-in time begins at 1pm on Sunday. The work schedule is Monday through Wednesday, with shifts from 7am to 10pm. Overnight stays are required during each camp session.
Job Summary- Actively participate in all program areas as assigned.
- Apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development and respect for diversity, involvement and empowerment of youth.
- Assist in program areas such as waterfront, nature, all camp activities, and arts and crafts as directed.
- Assure campers are properly supervised at all times.
- Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.
- Cell phone usage is limited to your 2-hour break, to avoid distraction and to allow for the camper and yourself to get the full camp experience.
- Ensure that campers receive their medications as directed by health care manager.
- Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.
- Maintain the confidentiality of each camper’s personal and health information both during and after camp.
- Provide the daily care of each camper within your supervision including recognition of personal health needs such as hygiene, dressing, feeding, etc.
- Reside at the camp during operational hours and take all meals with the campers.
- Responsible for leading and assisting with the teaching of activities for campers.
- Must be 18 years of age or high school graduate.
- Clearance of background check and drug screen.
- Must be able to obtain or become certified in First Aid/CPR.
- Must submit health history record and examination form prior to first day of work.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to interact with all age levels and children with special needs.
- Tobacco and vape-free facility.
