Overview

The Gallogly College of Engineering at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for a tenured-faculty leadership position as Director of our Engineering Pathways program. We are seeking an accomplished leader who has a strong understanding of and vision for engineering education. The position will be supported through the endowed Brock Chair in Engineering Pathways. The Director will be expected to make significant contributions to engineering student success through leading a team of passionate faculty, collaborating with faculty and leadership across the college, and developing and executing strategy in support of the college goal to grow the number of engineering graduates.

Engineering

Pathways Program

Engineering Pathways (EP) was launched in 2022 and currently has 12 faculty who are dedicated to teaching and mentoring engineering students early in and throughout their academic journey. The EP program serves all undergraduate students of the Gallogly College of Engineering, and our faculty support and educate engineering students in meaningful ways that recognize and encourage new approaches to thinking, understanding, and experiencing engineering.

Key components of the EP program include a first- and second-year common course, a mathematics support program (EMPOWER), an academic track to provide intentional and intensive support for academic success (Catalyst), and undergraduate research. The Director will provide strategic leadership and guidance to all EP programs as well as managing the programs’ operations and supervising the EP faculty.

Institutional Context

The Gallogly College of Engineering has been enjoying a period of rapid growth, increasing our student body to over 3,500 undergraduate students and 4,600 total students. At the same time, our faculty size has grown by about 60% and we now have more than 200 faculty. The College offers 18 undergraduate majors in 9 schools/programs and has a pathway to earning a PhD in engineering education.

A key component of strategic enrollment growth has been our investment in teaching-focused faculty in Engineering Pathways and in the academic departments, who provide teaching and mentorship excellence to students in the early years of their academic program.

Role and Expectations

The Engineering Pathways faculty are instrumental in our student-centered plan for growth through design and participation in curriculum, recruiting, and retention programs that impact all disciplines across the college. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated experience and commitment to excellent and innovative instruction, an ethos of care and support of students, and effective mentorship and guidance of students and faculty.

Candidates who also bring an interest in leading and collaborating in educational research are preferred. It is important that the candidate shares our vision of providing all students with the opportunity and support needed to succeed in an engineering major.

Support and Development

The University of Oklahoma invests in its faculty by providing support and resources through our Center for Faculty Excellence (https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) and Vice President for Research and Partnerships Office (https://). The Gallogly College of Engineering supports faculty development through mentoring, new faculty orientation series, and access to research and educational supports.

Environment and Application

The Gallogly College of Engineering seeks candidates who contribute to fostering a collaborative and welcoming environment in all aspects of faculty responsibility, including within the classroom, the academic community, and within their professional commitments. We encourage candidates to apply who are seeking to work in a rapidly growing college, in collegial interdisciplinary groups, and towards the mission of student success.
