AboutThe Transition Programs Coordinator Position
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Transition Programs, the Transition Programs Coordinator is responsible for fostering a commitment to student success by actively developing, implementing, and maintaining programs and services that enrich student learning, build and maintain a strong sense of community and support the social and personal development of students at the University of Oklahoma.
The position supports the recruitment of students for Start Sooner and oversees the advising and enrollment of participants as well as the development, administration, and programming for Start Sooner, a one-month summer bridge program for incoming students. Specific duties include fostering relationships with students, staff, faculty, and community partners; recruiting student staff and supporting the planning and execution of student staff training;
and overseeing the planning and execution of events for Start Sooner.
This position also advises Class Council, a departmental student organization designed to create impactful class-based (freshmen, sophomore, junior, senior) programming through collaboration with campus partners on existing programs/experiences as well as creating some original programming. This includes assisting with the recruitment of students to apply for leadership positions, facilitating student leader training, budget oversight, and event guidance.
Ideal Candidates Will Have- Knowledge of student development theory.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn university and department principles and procedures involved in risk.

- A commitment to and respect of the sensitivity of students’ disabilities, health concerns, socioeconomic status, immigration and citizenship status, through actions and interactions.
- Ability to demonstrate multicultural competence, knowledge and experience working and interacting effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations.
- Ability to prioritize, exercise initiative, and demonstrate sound judgment, while effectively executing numerous tasks in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
- Skills in active listening, critical thinking, negotiation, problem solving, reasoning, organizing, written and verbal communication, and multitasking.
- Supervisory skills such as hiring, training, and providing feedback to student staff.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external constituencies.
- Ability to present and facilitate workshops, programs, and events.
- Start Sooner Responsibilities:
- 30% Assist with the design, implementation, and management of Start Sooner. Supports the development of educational, cultural, social/community, and recreational programs in a manner which is collaborative and consultative with other units within the Division of Student Affairs, campus, and local community. Focuses on student learning centered educational initiatives and content to promote community service, leadership, and well-being. Through programs, meetings, and activities on- and off-campus, develops relationships and community with and among participants.
- 15% Assist with the recruitment of Start Sooner participants, and oversee the advising, and enrollment of participants.
