Essential Job Functions
- Oversee the implementation of district curriculum goals, philosophy, and policies within the area of responsibility.
- Assist teachers in establishing meaningful goals, objectives, and evaluation procedures related to educational improvement.
- Assist teachers in evaluating instructional methods, teaching skills, and the effectiveness of student learning outcomes.
- Ensure that teachers meet individual student needs and abilities and promote satisfactory growth in basic skills.
- Assist teachers in utilizing community resources within their instructional programs.
- Support teachers in providing classroom environments conducive to maximum learning.
- Maintain a workplace environment free of discrimination and sexual harassment and encourage equal opportunity for all.
- Promote health and safety by eliminating unsafe or unhealthy working conditions; communicate safety procedures and train staff accordingly; manage lost time due to worker accidents or injuries.
- Oversee staff training in the technical and procedural aspects of their positions.
- Motivate staff to review areas of responsibility to identify ways to improve performance.
- Encourage initiative and creativity while minimizing risk.
- Foster staff morale to reinforce successful performance.
- Provide opportunities for professional development experiences that support excellence in education.
- Administer personnel functions including new employee orientation, hiring, performance evaluation, corrective counseling, discipline, EAP referrals, grievance handling, problem resolution, work assignments, and implementation of personnel policies.
- Implement constructive student discipline practices that reinforce desired behavioral outcomes.
- Promote an environment where students take responsibility for their behavior and demonstrate respect for school property and the rights of others.
- Encourage appreciation for civil rights and responsibilities within democratic institutions.
- Promote student development based on moral and ethical values.
- Encourage and oversee projects designed to address special challenges or problems.
- Support teachers who develop and implement innovative instructional practices and techniques.
- Plan goals, objectives, and evaluation procedures for new initiatives and evaluate their effectiveness.
- Promote proactive problem solving, staff involvement, and improved productivity and customer service.
- Involve students and staff in developing and maintaining reasonable standards of conduct.
- Assist teachers in identifying sources of problems and involve them in the resolution process.
- Make informed decisions by evaluating relevant facts such as costs, customer needs, policies, and potential outcomes.
- Provide clear and consistent written and verbal directions.
- Minimize classroom interruptions to maximize instructional time.
- Plan and conduct productive staff meetings.
- Limit paperwork requirements to those that are necessary.
- Administer attendance policies in accordance with district policy.
- Oversee school health and safety programs.
- Provide opportunities for community involvement in school activities.
- Solicit community input when developing school goals.
- Utilize educational resources available within the community.
- Effectively communicate school programs and district policies to the community.
- Keep the community informed regarding school programs and activities.
- Encourage teachers to maintain effective communication with parents.
- Encourage parental involvement when addressing student discipline concerns.
- Demonstrate fiscal responsibility through effective utilization of resources and accountability for revenues and expenditures.
- Maintain appropriate inventory and cost-accounting systems.
- Supervise and evaluate teacher use of instructional materials, supplies, equipment, and facilities.
- Ensure supplies and equipment are available when needed.
- Maintain school facilities effectively within available resources.
- Monitor maintenance and utility costs to ensure efficiency compared with similar schools.
- Encourage students to demonstrate pride in their school and facilities.
- Promote economical use of materials and supplies.
- Implement programs that encourage staff to provide excellent customer service.
- Empower staff to resolve customer concerns, interpret policies, reduce unnecessary bureaucracy, and improve service delivery.
- Prepare clear and concise reports for School Board action.
- Communicate professionally with the public, staff, and colleagues.
- Utilize systems and procedures that support effective decision-making.
- Listen to and respond to ideas and suggestions from colleagues and staff.
- Keep the supervisor informed of critical concerns.
- Conduct short- and long-range planning for curriculum and school operations.
- Anticipate needs based on enrollment growth, demographic changes, revenue, and technological developments.
- Evaluate and revise forecasting as necessary.
