CredentialsCurrent Oklahoma Certificate or License with endorsements for the appropriate level/subject area.
EducationBachelor's Degree in education or related field from a college/university recognized by the Oklahoma Board of Education.
Reports ToBuilding administrators.
Contract182 days (+ New Teacher Induction week for teachers new to NPS).
FLSA ClassificationExempt.
Essential Job Functions- Possess a broad scope and knowledge of relevant subject matter and be acquainted with recent pedagogical developments.
- Participate in and contribute to NPS' curriculum development programs.
- Understand and apply sound principles of childhood development related to physical, emotional, intellectual, and social growth.
- Understand and utilize a variety of strategies to facilitate participation and learning by all students.
- Translate lesson plans into learning experiences that effectively utilize the available time for instruction.
- Establish and adjust procedures to ensure that district and site objectives are attained despite individual student differences.
- Provide clear direction and instruction. Related objectives, involve all learners, demonstrate required skill, adjust based on monitoring, guide practice, and establish closure.
- Make assignments related to objects and arrange for differentiated assignments to meet the needs and abilities of all students.
- Evaluate students' academic growth fairly and impartially, utilizing standardized tests, as well as teacher designed assignments. Administer group-standardized tests in accordance with the district testing program.
- Keep appropriate and accurate records and prepare reports relating to students' progress and needs.
- Cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Organize classroom routines to minimize classroom disciplinary problems. Handle all but the most serious classroom disciplinary problems without administrative involvement.
- Establish and maintain necessary standards of student behavior to achieve a positive and functional learning environment without negatively impacting other classrooms.
- Be familiar with all district policies and procedures.
- Be familiar with and effectively teach adopted courses of study including selecting and using appropriate materials.
- Maintain building equipment and supplies in the best possible condition and promote this good stewardship among students.
- Establish rapport with students and provide a pleasant, safe and orderly climate conducive to learning.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities while meeting the districts' requirement for professional development activities.
- Supervise students during out of class times in the course of the workday.
- Carry out your designated share of the extra-curricular school activities.
- Demonstrate a professional and ethical attitude towards the district, school, other employees, students, parents, and the public.
- Demonstrate emotional maturity, initiative, self-reliance, and problem solving skills. Respond to criticism in a constructive manner.
- Develop and maintain open communication. Work cooperatively with administrators, colleagues, volunteers, students, and parents. Share ideas, materials, and space.
- Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student progress. Help parents and students understand the school program.
- Demonstrate good judgement and sound decision making.
- Participate in school site improvement planning and faculty committees.
- Assist special education students with academic, social, and personal needs.
- Keep required records in an efficient and legible manner and in accordance with all district requirements.
- Present a professional appearance appropriate to assigned duties.
- Understand and apply knowledge of multi-cultural issues.
