About This Position

Oklahoma State University (OSU) Extension educators are the “front door” to the University, providing a link between OSU and the people of the state in all 77 Oklahoma counties. OSU Extension represents a federal, state, and county partnership working since 1914. The mission of OSU Extension is to disseminate information to the people of Oklahoma and encourage the adoption of research‑generated knowledge.

Extension educators provide research‑based information to clientele in the areas of agriculture, family and consumer sciences, 4‑H youth development, and community and rural development.

Position Details

This position has a dual appointment located in the Atoka and Coal County Extension Offices, Atoka and Coalgate, OK. It provides leadership to family and consumer sciences (FCS) and supports the 4‑H youth development programs with approximately 90 % of the time spent in FCS and 10 % in 4‑H work. The incumbent participates as a cohesive OSU Extension team member to involve local clientele and advisory groups in planning, implementing, and evaluating the total county program.

Due to communication expectations of the position, the incumbent will be required to maintain a cellular or other electronic communication device; compensation is provided to cover the use of their personal device.

Base annual salary: entry‑level educators with a bachelor’s degree – $44,000; with a master’s degree – $50,000. Starting salary is based upon education and prior relevant work experience. Educators with only a bachelor’s degree are encouraged to pursue a master’s degree. Continuation of employment is based on need, performance, and available county funding.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate family and consumer sciences programs in Atoka and Coal counties.
  • Support 4‑H youth development programs.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate the total county program with local clientele and advisory groups.
  • Maintain electronic communication and fulfill cellular device requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, public health, or a similar health‑related field is required. For candidates without an FCS degree, the following certifications must be obtained within two years of employment (certification expenses not covered by employer):
    • No FCS or education degree:
      Take two approved education courses (Pedagogy & Classroom Management) and pass APK and FCS OSAT within two years.
    • No FCS degree but an education degree:
      Provide proof of passing PPAT or APK.
    • No FCS degree but certified in FCS and with three years of teaching:
      No additional requirements beyond degree conferment on or before the agreed start date.
Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel related to official duties. Reimbursement for official travel is provided.
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge
  • Demonstrated ability to listen and communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and day‑to‑day demands.

  • Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to personal and professional development.

  • Leadership ability in designing, promoting, presenting, and evaluating educational programs, with a desire to reach diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences.
  • Previous experience in Cooperative Extension or closely related work.
