Meet Christ ChurchChrist Church in Norman, Oklahoma, is a non-denominational congregation committed to exalting Jesus, making disciples, and loving others. Rooted in historic Christian orthodoxy, the church emphasizes lifelong discipleship, teaching and modeling Jesus’ commands, and encouraging spiritual growth and maturity among its members. The Discipleship Pastor provides leadership for the spiritual formation of Christ Church. He helps shape and carry out a clear, unified disciple‑making strategy. Grounded in Titus 2, he cultivates intergenerational discipleship, where mature believers invest in the next generation of disciples. He shepherds ministry leaders, contributes to teaching, ensures doctrinal alignment, and develops a multiplying pipeline of disciple‑makers.
The Discipleship Pastor’s responsibilities include:Discipleship Development
- Help shape and advance the discipleship philosophy and vision of Christ Church.
- Directly oversee the execution of the church’s disciple‑making strategy.
- Serve as the primary teacher and driver of the Wednesday night Midweek Discipleship program, which feeds and ministers to approximately 300 people weekly. This includes overseeing the gender‑specific teaching environments and the subsequent small group discussion.
- Evaluate discipleship effectiveness and identify areas for growth and increased fruitfulness.
- Shepherd and directly oversee all discipleship ministry directors.
- Conduct one‑on‑one director meetings focused on spiritual health and ministry leadership.
- Provide encouragement, accountability, and pastoral care to ministry leaders church‑wide.
- Support ministry directors in developing healthy leaders, teams, and rhythms of ministry.
- Regularly teach in the Sunday Gathering and across all discipleship environments.
- Ensure doctrinal clarity and theological consistency in all teaching contexts.
- Provide oversight, review, and development of curriculum across all ministries.
- Recruit, equip, and deploy teachers to faithfully handle Scripture and church doctrine.
- Provide training in biblical literacy, discipleship practices, and ministry leadership skills.
- Cultivate a Titus 2 culture in which spiritually mature believers invest in the next generation.
- Encourage and expect leaders to raise up additional leaders.
The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Discipleship Pastor:
Education and Experience- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s strongly preferred.
- 10 years of ministry experience.
- Strategic Planning & Organization:
Must be a highly organized planner capable of mapping out ministry scope and sequence months in advance. - Driven & Self‑Starting: A self‑motivated leader who operates with high initiative and intentionality.
- Curriculum Vetting & Selection:
Possess a strong ability to properly vet, evaluate, and select or write theologically sound curriculum for adult ministries. - Relational Curiosity & Pastoral Heart:
Must possess a deep desire for authentic connection and fellowship. The candidate should demonstrate strong relational curiosity by asking intentional questions to know congregants deeply, while having the pastoral grace to gently rebuke, address sin, and build healthy accountability. - Teaching & Communication:
Faithfully interpret and communicate Scripture, supporting the church’s emphasis on biblical fidelity and sound doctrine.
The Discipleship Pastor must meet elder qualifications (1 Tim. 3:1–7; Titus 1:5–9), demonstrating godly character, sound doctrine, and the ability to teach. He must be a leader of leaders who equips the saints for ministry (Eph. 4:11–13).…
