Special Education Paraprofessional
The position requires an individual to assist teachers with Limited English Proficient students' acquisition of English and subject-area concepts. The candidate must meet Tier 1 Paraprofessional Requirements, which include completing two years of study at an institution of higher education, obtaining an associate's degree, or passing specific tests. An Oklahoma Special Education Paraprofessional Certificate is required or the willingness to complete the Tier 2 requirements and obtain the certificate within 120 days of employment.
An OSBI background check is mandatory every five years, and the cost is the employee's responsibility.
Education:
High school diploma or GED required. College coursework is preferred and may assist in meeting Tier 1 Paraprofessional Requirements.
Training/Experience
Required:
Must meet Tier 1 Paraprofessional Requirements. Previous work or volunteer experience with children, teenagers, or clerical duties preferred.
Essential Job Functions:
- Participate in daily and long-range lesson and classroom activity planning.
- Conduct learning exercises with small groups of students.
- Assist teachers with classroom activities.
- Assist in maintaining neat, safe work areas.
- Maintain records for evaluation of student's behavior and performance.
- Provide escort and assistance to students as necessary.
- Adhere to Board of Education Policy and assigned schedules.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Interpret/translate for students and teachers and support family communication with the school.
- Assist Limited English Proficient students with learning English and subject area concepts.
Supervision exercised:
An incumbent does not supervise.
Physical/Mental Requirements and
Working Conditions:
Must be able to communicate on the radio and telephone. Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
