Under the general supervision of the School Principal, this position develops students' skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The teacher fosters communication skills, cultivates an appreciation for literature of all types, motivates students to read widely to gain information and critically assess readings, and promotes the development of skills in English reading, grammar, and syntax.

• Develops and administers the English curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives.
• Promotes a safe classroom environment conducive to individualized and small‑group instruction.
• Creates lesson plans and instructional materials that translate into effective learning experiences.
• Teaches English grammar, syntax, composition, vocabulary, and creative writing.
• Sets standards for critical analysis through group discussions of diverse reading materials, including mass media and literature.
• Works with students and others to prepare literary publication materials and contest submissions.
• Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, modifying instruction to meet individual needs, including special‑needs students.
• Maintains familiarity with district and state standardized tests to adapt curriculum for maximal achievement.
• Continues professional learning by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, and by conducting research.
• Organizes accurate record‑keeping, grading, and mandatory reporting for all student activities.
• Encourages parental involvement and maintains effective communication with students and parents.
• Enforces student conduct standards in accordance with school policies.
• Coordinates with professional staff and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
• Selects and requisitions instructional materials, maintaining inventory records.

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

• Uses general office equipment such as personal computer, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
• Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

• Current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, with knowledge of differentiated instruction.
• Expertise in English grammar, word usage, spelling, and literature.
• Proficiency with data information systems and data analysis.
• Understanding of federal and state education laws.
• Computer networking skills and software application use.
• Organizational and coordination skills.
• Effective communication with students and parents.
• Self‑evaluation for professional growth.
• Cooperative working relationships with stakeholders.

Works in standard office and school building environments.

• State Certification as an English Education Teacher.

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching.
• Master's degree in a related area preferred.

Successful prior teaching experience in English is a plus.
