Seeking a Senior Environmental Engineer to lead environmental regulatory compliance for a major refinery operation in Oklahoma
.
This is a senior-level position focused heavily on air regulatory compliance
, environmental permitting, reporting, and continuous improvement, while working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Technical Services, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Lead environmental compliance across the refinery, with primary responsibility for air regulatory programs
- Manage and maintain air permits, approvals, and environmental compliance systems
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual environmental reporting, including NSPS, MACT, and emissions inventories
- Monitor refinery environmental performance through KPIs, dashboards, CEMS data, flare monitoring, and emissions testing
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve compliance with EPA and state environmental regulations
- Lead responses to regulatory agency inquiries, inspections, audits, and reviews
- Ensure environmental documentation, records, and reports are accurate, complete, and submitted on time
- Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Project Engineering, Technical Services, and contractors to resolve environmental compliance issues
- Support environmental data assurance, root cause analysis, training, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Provide environmental leadership and coverage for the Environmental Manager when required
- Participate in emergency response activities and provide off-hours support when necessary
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related technical discipline
- 10+ years of experience in refining, petrochemical, or chemical manufacturing environments; 15+ preferred
- 6+ years of environmental regulatory experience, with strong air compliance expertise
- Strong knowledge of EPA and state environmental regulations, permitting, NSPS, MACT, emissions reporting, and air programs
- Experience working with refinery or chemical plant operations and understanding P&IDs and PFDs
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience managing engineers, environmental professionals, or contractors preferred
- Strong analytical, mathematical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Excellent written, verbal, and technical presentation skills
- Ability to manage multiple regulatory programs and critical deadlines simultaneously
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
- Ability to work effectively across all levels of an industrial organization
- Senior-level environmental engineering position within a major refinery operation
