Job Overview
This position is responsible for tending pumps and other equipment used to decontaminate wastewater. The operator collects samples, reads charts and flow meters, identifies equipment malfunctions, and performs minor repairs.
Core Responsibilities- Tends pumps, conveyors, blowers, chlorinators, vacuum filters and other equipment used to decontaminate wastewater (sewage) by settling, aeration, and sludge digestion.
- Collects samples and prepares process reports.
- Reads charts, flow meters and gauges to detect equipment malfunctions.
- When key personnel are absent, the employee’s supervisor or qualified designee completes or delegates all required tasks and responsibilities.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED and at least 2 years of relevant experience and/or training.
- Nebraska Class I Wastewater License (or ability to acquire within 3 years of employment) and Nebraska Class I Water License (or ability to acquire within 2 years of employment).
- Ability to present information effectively in one‑on‑one and small group settings.
- Ability to follow written, verbal, or diagram instructions.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
- Ability to travel occasionally, possibly with overnight stays.
- Must be available for night and weekend on‑call status.
- Ability to work well in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment and to maintain a respectful, team‑oriented attitude.
The plant environment includes outdoor weather conditions, wet or humid conditions, extreme cold and heat, working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals. Noise level is usually moderate but can be loud. The job requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, using hands to handle, feel, or talk, and reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Occasional lifting or moving of up to 50 pounds is required.
