The Role
Responsible for hands‑on production support and the integration of mechanical and software solutions within a manufacturing environment. This role focuses on troubleshooting systems in real time, building and refining prototypes, and deploying practical solutions to improve quality, performance, and reliability.
The position emphasizes direct engagement with equipment and processes, driving continuous improvement through root‑cause analysis, rapid iteration, and scalable design. Success requires strong technical versatility, a hands‑on approach to problem solving, and the ability to translate concepts into robust, production‑ready systems.
What You Will Be Doing- Provide hands‑on engineering support in a manufacturing environment and develop automation, sensing, data acquisition, and control software using Python.
- Integrate systems with OT middleware (e.g., Ignition) and workflow tools such as Node‑RED.
- Design, develop, and troubleshoot machine vision systems using YOLO, OpenCV, and off‑the‑shelf inspection cameras.
- Work with autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and navigation technologies, including LiDAR and April Tags.
- Use CAD tools (Solid Works, AutoCAD) for design reviews, prototyping, packaging, and DFM.
- Diagnose and resolve issues in development and production environments.
- Document architecture, interfaces, test procedures, and operating standards for scalability and maintainability.
- Drive continuous improvement in system performance, robustness, and deployment readiness.
- Lead root‑cause investigations and implement corrective actions for automation and production issues.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Proficiency with CAD tools such as Solid Works
- Strong Python programming skills, including experience with computer vision using OpenCV or similar libraries.
- Experience developing integrated software and mechanical solutions.
- Familiarity with automation technologies, including AMRs, LiDAR, April Tags, and related sensing/navigation methods.
- Familiarity with integration tools such as Ignition, Node‑RED, or similar platforms.
- Ability to troubleshoot and integrate across hardware, software, and mechanical systems
- Display Commitment to Customer Satisfaction.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related field.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, for the duration of shift (eight (8) hours and possibly up to 12 hours), the employee is required to stand and walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, use tools, or operate controls, reach with hands and arms, bend, twist, kneel, squat, stoop, lift up to 50 pounds, and occasionally talk or hear.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
The expected base salary for this position is: $70K to $90K. Expected on‑target earnings: $81K to $105K.
Employees are eligible to participate in Hitachi Vantara’s bonus/variable/commission pay programs, where applicable, and are subject to the program’s conditions and restrictions.
