General Description

An OU Health Registered Nurse (RN) Ambulatory I works under general supervision, providing the highest quality of care in an ambulatory setting to patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. Essential Responsibilities
  • Align behaviors with OU Health values and maintain nursing professional practice standards.
  • Assume responsibility for assigned patient(s) or group of patients.
  • Document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, noting all changes in physician orders.
  • Assist physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments.
  • Obtain and monitor physiological data of patients, observe physiological manifestations, and intervene when necessary.
  • Administer medication as prescribed.
  • Initiate, regulate, and monitor intravenous infusions and blood products.
  • Deliver patient care safely and competently.
  • Resolve patient complaints in a timely manner in accordance with policy and in collaboration with support staff.
  • Inform patient and family of clinic/unit procedures and share care plan during time of care and at discharge.
  • Make referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
  • Foster a growth mindset through seeking mentorship, remaining open to coaching and feedback, and maintaining professional certification(s)/licensure.
  • Develop a professional career plan and establish personal, performance goals aligned with enterprise-wide metrics.
  • Foster an inclusive workforce where individual differences are valued and maximized.
  • Delegate tasks to clinical support staff as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (RN I)
  • Education:

    Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Experience:

    0-3 years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse.
  • License/Certification/Registration:
    Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)).
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
Minimum Qualifications (RN II)
  • Education:

    Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Experience:

    3+ years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse.
  • License/Certification/Registration:
    Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)).
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
  • Specialty certification(s) preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Knowledge of basic professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures.
  • Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques.
  • Ability to maintain civility and good working relationships with other employees.
  • Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
  • Skilled in computer applications designed to ensure quality and safety measures for patients.
  • Ability to establish and maintain integrity and trust with patients by advocating in the patient’s best interest.
  • Ability to engage and manage conflicts and disagreements constructively.
  • Ability to maintain compliance accreditation with local, state, and federal regulatory standards.
  • Ability to foster an inclusive workplace where diversity and individual differences are valued.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills characterized by candor, openness, integrity, and diplomacy.
