Overview

Radiation Oncology is a fast‑paced clinic with 10 attending physicians and 4 midlevel providers. The individual under limited direction facilitates optimal patient throughput throughout the care delivery areas and/or across the OU Health system. Works diligently with multidisciplinary care team members to move patients efficiently and safely through various levels of care, up to and including discharge or transfer to lower level of care or facility.

Serves as a resource to providers and provides guidance to unit staff concerning nursing care and related activities. Provides direct care as needed to facilitate outcomes of position, or throughput goals. Stays aligned with OU Health values, sustaining professionalism, integrity, inclusion, learning and teamwork.

Responsibilities
  • Aligns behaviors with OU Health values and maintains nursing professional practice standards.
  • Works closely with the Patient Logistics Center, Emergency Department, House Officer, and Administrator on call to facilitate optimal throughput for the facility, unit and patients needing care.
  • Forecasts appropriate resource needs to support smooth flow of patients and safe care delivery in the service area.
  • In procedural areas, prioritizes clinical and case/procedure level of urgency when considering placement of patients for procedures (e.g., urgent, trauma, add‑on cases).
  • Provides direction to physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff as it relates to procedural and/or department flow.
  • Acts as a liaison between physicians, patients/family, hospital staff, patient care areas, and outside agencies to promote efficient patient flow.
  • Escalates medical necessity and urgency status issues through the established chain of command.
  • Facilitates daily management meetings and effectively communicates resources and issues to appropriate areas.
  • Tracks and trends barriers to patient flow.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and compliance with regulatory requirements, ethics and compliance policies, and quality initiatives related to procedural services.
  • Coordinated unit activities in catastrophic situations such as fires, flooding, disasters, and power outages, ensuring safety and continuity of care.
  • Resolves staffing problems caused by employee absences, inclement weather or other shortages and serves as a resource to coordinate and communicate with other departments regarding availability of equipment, services, staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education
    :
    Associate's or Bachelor's (BSN) Degree in Nursing, BSN preferred.
  • Experience
    : 2 years of patient care experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • License/Certification/Registration
    :
    Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)).
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
  • Knowledge of nursing theory, practices, techniques, procedures and standards.
  • Ability to organize, plan, coordinate and evaluate nursing services and resources across the care areas and OU Health system.
  • Ability to maintain civility and good working relationships with other employees.
  • Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
  • Skilled in computer applications designed to ensure quality and safety measures for patients.
  • Ability to establish and maintain integrity and trust with patients by advocating in the patient’s best interest.
  • Ability to engage and manage conflicts and disagreements constructively.
  • Ability to maintain compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards.
  • Ability to foster an inclusive workplace that values diversity and individual differences.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills characterized by candor, openness and diplomatic tone.
  • Knowledge of hospital organization, nursing administration, personnel management and accreditation agency regulations.
  • Knowledge of principles of effective bed management in a hospital or patient care department.
