Pay Range: Targeted salary $60,500 annually, based on experience

Position Introduction

Goddard Health Center is the ambulatory care facility on the Norman campus, providing primary care services to students, faculty, staff, and their dependents. Performs professional nursing duties such as physician assistance, sample collection, information gathering, patient follow‑up, data collection, medication administration, collaboration, patient education, emergency response, and patient preparation.

Job Duties
  • Nursing Procedures. Performs various duties and procedures such as EKGs, audiograms, pulmonary testing, vision testing, ear lavages, allergy serum injections, wound care, and administering IV fluids.
  • Sample Collection. Collects samples from patients including blood, urine, etc. Prepares samples for analysis or shipment.
  • Information Gathering. Takes and records various readings such as heart and respiratory rate, blood pressure, weight, body temperature, etc.
  • Patient Follow‑Up. Answers medical questions from patients, family, etc., both in person and on a dedicated nurse phone line.
  • Data Collection. Collects all laboratory reports, data, and records.
  • Medication Administration. Under direction of a physician or other medical personnel, administers medication and injections to patients, including allergy serum injections.
  • Collaboration. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to provide efficient quality patient care.
  • Patient Education. Provides educational information to patients, family, etc., including travel health education and consultation.
  • Emergency Response. Responds to and intervenes in emergencies such as anaphylaxis, hypoglycemia, hypotension, respiratory distress, etc.
  • Acts as a lead employee when work performed requires little or no direct supervision.
  • Patient Triage. Performs general health assessments and triages patients for priority care. Orders tests or procedures per protocols.
  • Vaccine Administration. Administers vaccines, including influenza, COVID‑19, childhood immunizations, and travel immunizations. Coordinates flu immunization clinic.
  • Inventory. Inventory management including supply ordering.
  • Maintains procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste and drugs.
  • As Needed. Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position. Including, but not limited to, infection control, employee health, travel consultations, special clinic coordination, staff training, and in‑service presentations.
Skills
  • Advanced knowledge of techniques needed to diagnose and treat illness or injury related issues, to include, but not limited to treatment alternatives, drug properties, and preventative health care measures.
  • Advanced knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Ability to give full attention to what is being said and understand the points being made.
  • Ability to ask questions when appropriate.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deal with staff, physicians, visitors, vendors, and patients in a tactful, diplomatic, and pleasant manner.
  • Ability to work in stressful situations and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information.
  • Well organized and ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to build and maintain rapport with students, faculty, staff, and providers.
  • Ability to solve problems.
Required Education
  • Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree in Nursing.
Required Certifications and Licenses
  • State of Oklahoma Registered Nurse Licensure or the ability to obtain the licensure within 90 days of employment in the position.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Department Preferences
  • 25 months or more experience in clinical setting.
