Data Scientist
IRR provides data support for University planning and administration. This is an entry-level institutional research position, tasked with data gathering, analysis, reporting, and records management. While prior IR experience is a plus, it is not required for entry-level work. Critical thinking skills, clear and concise writing style, graphic design abilities, project or knowledge management, and/or higher education work experience are all potential assets for this position.
Duties- Responsible for gathering data, preparing reports, analyzing data and statistics, and related functions to support university planning and administration.
- Develops, maintains, and updates queries and reports to fulfill recurring data needs for internal and external reporting requirements. Produces tables, graphs, dashboards, and narrative analysis of data to easily display and summarize data.
- Responds to ad hoc requests for data and information.
- Creates standard, cross-institutional, and longitudinal reports from a variety of sources. Creates data sets for planning and to support timely decision making.
- Provides training and support to others regarding the planning, analyzing, and reporting processes to be used in research.
- Completes surveys from external entities.
- Prepares special analyses as requested.
- Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
Bachelors degree in Statistics, Social Sciences, Information/Library Science, or related field
Equivalency/SubstitutionWill accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the Bachelors degree
Skills- Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, faculty, and staff
- Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information
- Able to produce reports and complete work within deadlines
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Strong initiative to solve problems
- Basic research skills and experience with data analysis techniques
