Position Introduction: The Oklahoma Biological Survey is looking for a student worker to care for garden beds of native plants for research projects, collect data on invertebrates in the field, and analyze citizen science data. Position will be a combination of outside manual labor, data collection outside, and indoor data entry and analysis. There will also be opportunities to help with environmental education events.
Job Duties:
- Gather biological data on monarch butterflies and milkweeds from online resources for analysis:
- Search online citizen databases for relevant data
- Compile data into a usable format for analysis
- Care for native plants for research project:
- Water plants in greenhouse
- Germinate and transplant seedlings for native plant research and restoration projects
- Maintain outdoor research beds, including weeding, weed whacking, composting, and seed collecting
- Data collection:
- Collect data on plants within research beds and restoration projects in the field
- Collect data on pollinators within research beds and restoration projects in the field
- Data entry
Required
Education and Experience:
- Must be currently enrolled in a combination of two terms as a student at the University of Oklahoma.
- Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.
Skills:
- Ability to work independently
Department Preferences: Biological science, environmental studies, environmental sustainability, or education major with interest in conservation biology and environmental education. Interest in conservation. Experience maintaining and editing websites, or willingness to learn.
