General InformationThe Lead Researcher provides scientific, technical, and operational leadership for the Core Molecular Facility with the School of Biological Sciences. Responsible for advanced genomic and transcriptomic laboratory operations, bioinformatics support, instrumentation oversight, user training, and core facility administration. Serves as a subject matter expert in nucleic acid sequencing workflows and associated data analysis, supporting research programs across the college. Operates with a high degree of independent judgment and contributes to the sustainability, modernization, and research impact of a shared academic research facility.
Qualifications/Requirements- Master's degree.
- 36 months related research experience, including supervision.
- Equivalency/Substitution:
Will accept 72 months related research experience in lieu of the Master's degree for a total of 108 months of related experience. - PhD in a related scientific field.
- Experience managing or supporting an academic core facility.
- Advanced experience with bioinformatics pipelines and large-scale datasets.
- Experience contributing to research proposals or equipment grants.
- Experience with cost-recovery or service-based research environments.

- Oversee research activities and provide operational supervision for laboratory activities.
- Supervise research staff, including hiring, training and performance evaluation.
- Plan and coordinate administrative activities of assigned areas, such as the formulation and preparation of the unit's budgets, grant proposals and project proposals.
- Initiate, plan and direct field studies.
- Supervise and direct the preparation, identification, and cataloging of information and specimens.
- Execute special projects, research and analyze data, write reports and make recommendations.
- Set policies and oversee the archiving of all data.
- Search and apply for sponsored research.
- Perform qualitative and quantitative analyses.
- Maintain an up-to-date literature file related to field of specialization.
- Prepare and submit research for presentations and publication.
- Teach one or more classes or seminars.
- Perform various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
$87,000 annually, based on experience
