Position Introduction

Reporting to the Vice President and General Counsel, the University of Oklahoma‑Norman, the Research Integrity Officer (RIO) promotes the responsible conduct of research. The RIO implements federal regulations, sponsors University‑wide and OU‑Norman policies, provides ethical conduct of research training for university constituents, and develops procedures for managing allegations of research misconduct. Manages Research Misconduct proceedings involving sponsored and non‑sponsored research activities for OU‑Norman.

Responsibilities
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for research integrity and compliance concerns for OU‑Norman
  • Oversees the process of managing allegations of research misconduct involving members of the OU‑Norman community
  • Identifies and develops training, policies, and procedures for OU‑Norman pertaining to all aspects of ethical conduct of research and research integrity; establishes and promotes a culture of compliance and integrity.
  • Serves as a representative of the OU‑Norman Campus in dealings with governmental agencies related to research misconduct proceedings and on key committees across the University.
  • Regularly collaborates with the Research Security Officer to identify vulnerabilities in the research enterprise related to misappropriation of research and development.
  • Keeps abreast on state laws, federal regulations, and national trends influencing issues related to research integrity/compliance and attends appropriate federal compliance training sessions.
  • Liaises as necessary with key constituents across the entire University – including, but not limited to, the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost, the Office of the General Counsel, the Office of Compliance, and the Research Integrity Office and RIO for the OU‑Health Sciences Center, as well as with individual colleges, schools, centers, and institutes.
Required

Education and Experience
  • MS/PhD/MD in science/engineering/medicine, and/or Juris Doctor.
  • 48 months of general work experience post‑PhD/MS/MD/JD.
Department Preferences
  • MS/PhD/MD in science/engineering/medicine, and/or Juris Doctor.
  • At least 5 years of general work experience post‑Ph.D./MS/MD/JD.
  • At least 2 years of relevant and applicable supervisory experience, working in a Tier 1 Research Institution in a research setting.
  • Previous experience as an assistant/deputy RIO
  • Knowledge pertaining to federal, state, and university laws, policies, and procedures pertaining to research.
  • High level of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage a caseload of complex and intricate investigations.
  • Proven experience in fostering and maintaining key relationships with internal and external constituents.
