Position: Retail & Rental Assistant – Student Worker (Fall)

Pay Range: Target Salary Range: $12.00 hourly

Position Introduction

The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art is looking for outgoing students to assist the Manager of Retail and Rentals. The selected candidates will be key players in the daily operations of the museum's gift and coffee shop, Cup of Jones. They will also be integral in the preparation and running of special events that are hosted at the museum. This is an excellent opportunity to grow professional skills in a museum atmosphere!

Required Education And Experience
  • Must be currently enrolled in the Fall 2026 term as a student at the University of Oklahoma.
  • Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.
Retail Duties
  • Greet customers and foster a welcoming environment
  • Assist customers with purchases and answer any questions
  • Operate a cashless point-of-sale system
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization on the store floor and in the stockroom
  • Assist with inventory tracking and stocking
  • Perform quality control checks on merchandise
Rental Duties
  • Assist with the organization and set‑up of special events (includes arranging tables, chairs, and equipment)
  • Work during events as needed
  • Assist with breakdown of events
  • Help maintain organization and cleanliness in rental spaces (catering kitchen and supply storage)
Skills
  • Customer-oriented and professional attitude
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem‑solving abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work as part of a team, as well as independently
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours each week
  • Ability to work weekends and some nights
Required Certifications And Licenses

None

Department Preferences
  • Previous experience in retail, food service, or customer service
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply various technologies including:
    • point of sale/inventory systems and Audio Visual equipment
