Duties- Monitor inmates/offenders in a wide variety of situations and activities. Monitoring may be direct or through subordinate Correctional Officers.
- Enforce facility rules and regulations governing inmate/offender conduct.
- Conduct and evaluate on‑the‑job training for newly assigned Corrections Officers, if applicable.
- Document inmate/offender behavior, status and movement.
- Search inmates/offenders’ person, quarters and work areas for contraband.
- Operate or monitor operation of manual, computerized and/or electronically controlled security equipment, maintaining controlled movement of inmates/offenders, staff members and the public.
- Responsible for inmate/offender housing areas, including sanitation, serving meals, laundry inventory, supplies, etc. Maintain all daily control documentation (logs, counts, etc.).
- Be in charge of visiting areas, ensuring compliance with rules and regulations involving those areas.
- Transport or oversee transportation of inmates/offenders leaving the facility into the community.
- Assist supervisory staff in operation of maximum security areas, such as segregation units.
- Recommend improvements to security procedures when appropriate.
- Overtime, voluntary and mandatory, includes weekends, holidays and double shifts.
- Minimum qualifications:
at least 18 years of age; high school education or equivalent; valid driver's license; and must be able to legally possess a firearm and ammunition. - Preferred:
Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills. - Must be able to work shift assignments including weekends and holidays.
- Must pass a medical exam and a drug test.
- Successful completion of the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program at Staff Training Academy.
