Job DescriptionThis job classification has been designated as a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1et seq.,(OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019. This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.
Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent. One to two years of experience is necessary in the machinery, equipment, repairs and procedures of the automotive/equipment industry. Proficient in all areas of automotive and light, medium duty truck and equipment repair.
Licenses and CertificationsValid Oklahoma Driver's License and satisfactory motor vehicle record. Must obtain Oklahoma Commercial Driver's License Class B within one (1) year of employment. Must obtain an Oklahoma Department of Labor, Alternative Fuels Equipment Technician License within one (1) year of employment or as classes become available. Ability to obtain Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning (MVAC) Certification under section 609 of the Clean Air Act within one (1) year of employment.
Ability to obtain five (5) ASE certifications from the ASE Automotive test series A1 through A9 within one (1) year of employment.
Operating principles and theories of diesel, gasoline, compressed natural gas and battery powered engines. Independently diagnosing and repairing of Light Duty equipment and vehicles. Safety practices related to repair of equipment.
SkillsReading and interpreting schematics, diagrams, flowcharts and instructions outlined in equipment repair manuals. Diagnosing equipment malfunctions and rebuilding parts. Operating various hand and power tools and work aids. Navigating multiple diagnostic scan tools and vehicle software.
Essential FunctionsDiagnose equipment malfunction; repairs and replaces parts on various vehicles and equipment systems to ensure continued operation of vehicle or equipment. Installs and repairs emergency lighting. Diagnose and repair electrical systems. Diagnose and repair or replace brake systems. Performs duties related to maintenance and repair of City vehicles and equipment. Performs scheduled routine maintenance rates equipment safely to check operating functions.
Complete repairs within Industry Standards. Operates wrecker to tow disabled vehicles. Performs related work as assigned.
Ability to maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail. Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy (25-50 lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment frequently. Ability to lift heavy (50-75 lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment occasionally. Work requires continued walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.
Working ConditionsFrequent exposure of up to 80% of work time to dirt, dust, extremes of temperature, and noxious fumes and odors.
Additional InformationAll tools/toolbox provided. Selected applicant must pass background investigation, physical examination and drug screen.
