PositionSummary
The Mechanic Service Technician performs semi-skilled mechanical service, preventive maintenance, inspection, and related support functions for school buses, district vehicles, and other automotive equipment. The position works under the general supervision of the Lead Mechanic and is responsible for supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the district's transportation fleet. The incumbent is expected to exercise sound judgment, demonstrate initiative, maintain a safe and organized work environment, and provide professional service to district personnel and equipment operators.
EssentialDuties And Responsibilities
The following duties are representative of the essential functions of the position. Additional duties may be assigned as required.
- Operates school buses, district vehicles, and other transportation-related equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
- Performs daily, periodic, and preventive maintenance on school buses, vehicles, and automotive equipment.
- Inspects and services fluid levels, brakes, tires, lubrication systems, and other vehicle components.
- Performs routine automotive maintenance, including fluid changes, filter replacement, lubrication, and related service procedures.
- Assists with the preparation and maintenance of vehicles for required annual inspections.
- Assists in identifying, diagnosing, and addressing routine mechanical problems and potential equipment concerns.
- Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe service center in accordance with established department standards.
- Properly uses, maintains, and stores hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, and other assigned equipment.
- Delivers and retrieves school buses, district vehicles, and equipment from school sites and other designated locations.
- Assists with vehicle recovery and wrecker service operations as assigned.
- Picks up and delivers automotive parts, supplies, and materials for the Maintenance and Transportation Departments.
- Completes required maintenance records, inspection forms, work orders, and other documentation accurately and timely.
- Communicates effectively with supervisors, coworkers, district employees, equipment operators, and members of the public regarding vehicle and equipment needs.
- Follows established safety procedures, district policies, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Reports unsafe conditions, equipment deficiencies, and other concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Completion of vocational or technical training in automotive service is preferred.
