Effective the school year, a 1 year LTS Certified School Nurse position will exists within the Norristown Area School District at Marshall Street Elementary School.
Qualification:
- PA Department of Education School Nurse Certification required
- CPR certified
- Experience in Pediatrics preferred
- Minimum of 2 years with school age students preferred
- Current police, child abuse and FBI Fingerprint clearances required
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred
- Using methods established by the Advisory Health Board, conducts vision and hearing tests; measures height and weight; tests for tuberculosis; conducts scoliosis screening; and advises parents or guardians if the screening results warrant further medical or dental care.
- Conducts in-service training for school personnel regarding health matters.
- Assists families in understanding medical findings and recommendations and refers them to appropriate community agencies.
- Acts as a resource person to the educational community in matters pertaining to health.
- Advises administration on communicable disease regulations and excludes and re-admits students as necessary.
- Implements follow through procedures for children with special health or medical needs.
- Schedules mandated physical and special examinations.
- Assures that all students are in compliance with the State Immunization laws, advises the building principal on this matter and maintains tracking records until complete.
- Administers medication as per District guidelines.
- Reports and documents cases of suspected child abuse in accordance with District guidelines.
- Coordinates the recording of all pertinent health information in the students health record, insuring accuracy, confidentiality and completeness.
- Establishes guidelines for first aid and is responsible for first aid supplies in the building.
- Develops emergency procedures that are practiced in the schools.
- Submits accurate data for required building and District reports.
- Recommend type of transportation necessary in cases of emergency.
- Shall perform other school health related duties, as deemed appropriate.
- Participates in MDT, grade level meetings, and SAP sessions.
- Completes psychological and homebound referral forms initiated by the guidance department.
- Coordinates building medical services and directs nurse (RN/LPN) to implement them.
