Job Description:
The Department of English & Philosophy at MCLA invites applications for Adjunct Instructor in Literary Studies for the academic year. We are seeking an instructor with experience teaching literature courses at the undergraduate level. The successful candidate will teach one course in the Fall 26 semester and one course in the Spring 27 semester as described below or both courses in the same semester.
Candidates with a strong commitment to working with a diverse student population are particularly encouraged to apply.
Examples of Duties:
* Teach "English 152:
Fundamentals of Literary Study 2:
Interpretations and Methods," which introduces first-year English majors to various interpretive frameworks for analyzing literary texts.
* Teach one upper-level course in the "Literary Histories Period 1" category, which exposes students to literature written prior to 1700.
* Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that upholds the values of the liberal arts
* Implement curriculum which fulfills departmental learning outcomes
Requirements:
* MA or PhD in Literature or related field (ABD acceptable)
* Previous experience teaching literature at the undergraduate level
* Record of publication or other contributions to the field (preferred)
Additional Information:
This is a part time, temporary position starting on 09/01/2026 running through 05/31/2027. Salary for this position is $3,500-$7000 per course.
