Job Description:

The Department of English & Philosophy at MCLA invites applications for Adjunct Instructor in Literary Studies for the  academic year. We are seeking an instructor with experience teaching literature courses at the undergraduate level. The successful candidate will teach one course in the Fall 26 semester and one course in the Spring 27 semester as detailed below. Candidates with a strong commitment to working with a diverse student population are particularly encouraged to apply.

Examples of Duties

* Teach one course in the "Social Justice and Transformation" category of our curriculum, which engages with texts that reflect or enact social change.

* Teach one course entitled "American Literary Survey" which explores key texts in American literature from the colonial period through the 21st century.

* Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that upholds the values of the liberal arts.

* Implement curriculum which fulfills departmental learning outcomes.

Requirements:

* MA or PhD in Literature or related field (ABD acceptable)

* Previous experience teaching literature at the undergraduate level

* Record of publication or other contributions to the field (preferred)

Additional Information:

This is a part time, temporary position starting on 09/01/2026 running through 05/31/2027. Salary for this position is $3,500-$7,000 per course.
